About Universidad de Burgos

The Universidad de Burgos is a relatively new university, although it was previously an important "colegio universitario" affiliated with the Universidad de Valladolid. It currently has about 11,000 students and is divided into two campuses, the Campus on the river Vena, site of the Higher Polytechnic School, and the Campus of San Amaro (Hospital del Rey) which is home to the rest of the faculties and installations.

About Spain

Are you ready to take your Spanish to the next level? At the University of Burgos, in the northern Castilian area of Spain known as the land of castles, you will have the opportunity to attend classes side-by-side with University of Burgos students.  Burgos, capital of the province of the same name, is a medium-sized city located halfway between Madrid and the French border. The cradle of Castilla and the setting of many heroic events in the Middle Ages, the city and province of Burgos have countless national monuments--castles, monasteries, palaces, churches--that testify to the past greatness of the area. El Cid and Fernan Gonzalez, two Castilian heroes, were both from Burgos. The area enjoys pleasant temperatures in the summer and fall months, much cooler than those of southern or central Spain. Click here for view of campus and surrounding area.

The University of Burgos currently has almost 10,000 students studying at 5 centres: the Science Faculties, the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies, the Faculty of Humanities and Education, the Faculty of Law, and the Higher Polytechnic School, as well as at three associated schools, the School of Nursing, the School of Labour Relations and the School od Tourism. It currently offers over 30 different undergraduate degrees and, in addition, over 20 PhD Programmes, as well as several Official Masters and other graduate courses.

Notes about the Language of Instruction

First and foremost, our courses are intended to enable students to learn our language while immersed in a linguistic experience, not only in the classroom, but also in the their daily life alongside the people of Burgos, appreciating our history and our monuments, savouring our famous gastronomic delights and warming to our welcome and our noble-minded nature.

The University of Burgos has adapted its levels to the common European Framework of Reference for Languages and offers all levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. Each student's level is determined by an entry test that may be taken over the internet before the start of the course.
