Latvia is a small country on the Baltic Sea with ancient history and traditions. Regardless of the fact that Latvia is the land of rare natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, from the global viewpoint it remains relatively unknown - a terra incognita. In 2004 it joined EU and has been actively developing its prominent new role in a rapidly globalizing world community.
Latvia is the central country of the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). On the world map Latvia is to be found in North-eastern Europe, on the east coast of the Baltic Sea. Today, the geographical location of Latvia is a basis for its economic development, which was suspended in its time by wars and battles devastating this country.
The landscape of the country is marked by lowland plains and rolling hills. Most of the countryside is less than 100 metres above sea level. There are thousands of rivers and lakes in Latvia.
Turiba University is one of the leading higher educational institutions in Latvia with a stable tradition and a clear vision of common European educational space. Founded in 1993, Turiba is proud of its more than 5800 students and 11,432 alumni.
