Study Abroad in Spain

Why Spain?
There was a time when Spain held the most powerful empire in the world, and in many ways, it is still the crossroads of Europe and Africa. Because of this studying abroad in Spain offers students an opportunity to learn about many cultures while living in one small country. The fierce sport of bullfighting can be found there, and the passionate music and dance of the flamenco. But there is also rich cultural diversity, from the Celtic musical traditions in the north to the Moorish architecture in the south. World Endeavors students in Spain immerse themselves in Spanish language and culture and learn to live on a different rhythm.
Live in Valladolid, Spain
The Castilla y Leon region could easily be mistaken for a fairy-tale kingdom. It’s home to some of Spain’s most historic and picturesque castles, cathedrals, and villages. The capital of this region is Valladolid, a magnificent city founded in the Middle Ages that lives very much in the present. Local traditions are strong here, including a magnificent Holy Week procession, and devotees of Spanish literature make pilgrimages to Miguel de Cervantes’ house in town. The local culture has a fun side too: there’s a regular tapas competition held between local bars, and a major international film festival takes place in Valladolid every autumn. It’s the perfect place to experience Spanish culture first-hand.
Program Snapshot

Academics : Upon successful completion of the program, credit and transcripts will be issued by the University of Valladolid. World Endeavors staff work with students and their academic advisors to ensure that students earn credit for courses taken abroad.

Students applying to this program must have:
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old and in good academic standing.
  • Fluency in English required. No previous experience with Spanish required. Students will be placed in a class suitable to their level of proficiency in Spanish.

Housing and Participant Life : Participants in this program stay with local Spanish host families. Staying with families is a valuable part of becoming immersed in the local culture, and it’s one of the best ways for students to practice their Spanish outside the classroom. Host families are very welcoming and enjoy having foreign students stay with them. All host family accommodation includes three meals every day, plus laundry.
